Six Core Craftsmanship Disciplines
1. Exterior Painting
Exterior Painting mastery is the foundation of our street-side presence. It demands absolute safety awareness and the technical skill to manage large-scale equipment like 40-foot extension ladders. Beyond the tools, you’ll master the exact processes that ensure a BLS finish outlasts the Texas elements, from meticulous prep to final coat.
Safety & Speed
18-24 Months
2. Brush and Roll Painting
Brush & Roll mastery is where true skill is proven. This discipline goes beyond the basics, requiring a deep understanding of tool selection—from bristle types to roller naps—tailored to the finish. At BLS, we define a master by their ability to execute flawless, freehand cut-in lines that eliminate the need for tape.
Practice
6-12 Months
3. Touch Up & Warranty Work
Touch-Up & Warranty mastery is reserved for our most disciplined craftsmen. It is a high-stakes discipline that demands extreme patience and the technical finesse to make any surface look brand-new. You’ll be the bridge between the builder’s deadline, the homeowner’s expectations, and the BLS standard—thriving in a fast-paced environment where precision is the only option. It is, by far, our most challenging and rewarding skillset.
Patience
24-36 Months
4. Spray Painting & Cabinet Finishing
While everyone wants to pick up a spray gun, true mastery lies in the technical details. To achieve a flawless, factory-glass finish, you must first master the science of pressure settings, tip selection, and rigorous equipment maintenance. At BLS, Spray Finishing is as much about the precision of your prep and protection as it is about the final coat.
Skill & Patience
24-36 Months
5. Staining
Staining is perhaps our most misunderstood and overlooked discipline. True mastery goes far beyond simply applying color; it is a systematic transformation of the wood itself. To reach this level, a BLS Craftsman must master the chemistry of wood conditioners, the technical precision of grain opening, and the specialized art of wood bleaching. We don’t just ‘stain’—we execute a multi-step sealer and finish system that very few in the industry have the patience or the secrets to perform.
Repaints & New Construction
9-18 Months
6. Restoration Painting
Restoration Painting is the most demanding discipline to master at BLS. While many can ‘repaint,’ true restoration is the art of reviving and preserving history buried beneath decades of paint. It requires the rare skill to treat sixty-year-old wood—not just to make it look new, but to protect its structural integrity for another decade. This time-consuming craft demands absolute mastery of ventilation systems, specialized wood fillers, and the patience of a true artisan.
Prep Work
48-60 Months
7. Communication
At the highest level of our craft, leadership is our most vital skillset. It requires the internal strength to maintain a luxury experience even when timelines are tight. By mastering proactive communication—from site safety to meticulous progress updates—you transform potential chaos into a seamless process. A BLS Leader doesn’t just manage a crew; they orchestrate the entire environment so that the homeowner only sees the perfection of the result.
